Are Your Water Bills Too High?

July 21, 2015

Water is a necessity, and most people are quite alright with paying for something that is so important. However, there are times when bills can just get too high. If you’ve noticed a spike in your water bills recently, then that could be a sign that something is very wrong with your system. Here are a few things you can do.

Check for Leaks in Your Toilets

Leaking toilets may not seem like much, but make no mistake that a leak here can waste hundreds of gallons each month. It is best to check for leaks quickly, and then call the professionals to conduct a thorough inspection and make repairs if necessary. To check if there is a leak, wait a few minutes after flushing, and lift up the cover. If it is too full inside, then there is a good chance that something is wrong.

Are There Leaks in Your Service Lines?

Although these can sometimes be difficult to detect, a leak in your service line can be costing you a pretty penny in bills. Some telltale signs are leaks in your basement, other water pressure issues, wet spots in your yard, and of course unexplained spikes in water bills. You have to jump on this before it gets worse. Have an experienced plumber come and take a look immediately

Is Your Shutoff Valve Broken?

You should always know where the shutoff valve is. If you think something might be off about it, shut it off completely and see if there is still some water running through the pipes. If there is even a little bit, this can be a sign of a bigger problem. Call a plumbing company to take a look, and determine if you need the valve replaced. It might seem like a small problem but make no mistake that it will cost a lot of money down the line.

Paying for water is absolutely necessary, nobody disputes that. Paying too much for water is a pain though. If you have noticed your bills getting out of control, then it could be a sign of a bigger problem. Have the pros come out and inspect because you might need some serious repairs before the problems get worse. Tap Roots Plumbing has years of experience with these issues, so trust our trained eyes next time you need help with your water problems.
